What a female DJ brings to a corporate launch

A product launch has a run sheet, a reveal, a camera crew and a guest list that came for the brand rather than the music. That is a different job from a club night, and it is where the choice of DJ shows most. Here is what a female DJ with a club résumé changes for a corporate room, and what to brief so it works.

She is part of the content, not just the audio

Every launch is filmed. A DJ the crowd recognises from Instagram gives the content team a subject: the reveal shot with the booth in frame, the reel of the floor filling, the still for the recap post. Maya has played under her own logo on the LED wall at brand nights, and the footage from those nights is what the client posts the next day. When you put a name on the flyer, you get a reason for people to arrive on time and a face for the recap.

The set follows the run sheet, to the second

Corporate rooms are timed. Doors, welcome, keynote, reveal, dinner, party. The DJ's job during the first half is to be the floor under the programme: a bed under the walk-in, a sting for the reveal, silence for the speech, a lift when the host says "enjoy the night". Maya cues these with your MC or show caller, with a backup file for every moment. What that requires from you is simple: send the run sheet a week out and name one person she talks to on the night.

Clean edits and a brief followed to the letter

Most brands want energy without explicit lyrics, and a set that matches the brand deck rather than the DJ's weekend. That is a brief, and a professional follows it. Genre, tempo, songs to avoid, the moment the tone can turn from dinner to dance: all of it is agreed before the day. The room hears house, R&B and the throwbacks that get a mixed-age office up, edited clean.

What to send in the brief: the run sheet, the brand's music references if any, a no-play list, the dress code, load-in time and the name of your show caller. Ten minutes on a call a week before covers everything else.

The paperwork

Procurement needs a quotation, a contract and an invoice in the company name, and sometimes a vendor registration form. Maya issues all of them, with her rate card attached to the quotation. Sets are 3 to 4 hours; out-of-town gatherings are quoted with the hotel night and meals included. Overtime is by the hour and worth pre-approving, so the party does not end at the exact minute on the run sheet.

What the DJ does not do

She brings the booth: CDJs, mixer and monitors. Room PA, lighting and the LED wall come from your production company or the venue, and she coordinates with them before the day so the booth is on the right stage input and the monitors are placed. If you are working without a production company, say so early and she will tell you what to rent.

Three rooms it works for

  • Product launches and activations. A curated set under the programme, a cued reveal, then a floor that gives the content team its shots.
  • Company gatherings and year-end parties. Dinner, awards, then a dance floor that gets the whole office up. Requests welcome inside the brief.
  • Dinner-and-dance at hotels. Maya has closed rooms at Bleu8 Hotel Mulia and Bond Jakarta; a hotel ballroom with a house system is the easiest setup of all.

Send the date, the venue and a line about the event on WhatsApp and you will have a quotation the same day. Full details are on the corporate event DJ page.

Related questions

Can the DJ start with background music during registration?

Yes. A low-volume bed from doors is part of the same set; the brief decides when it lifts.

Do you provide an MC?

Maya DJs and cues the programme with your MC. If you need one, she can recommend hosts she has worked with in Jakarta.

How much notice do you need?

Two weeks is comfortable for Jakarta. Out-of-town gatherings need four to six weeks for flights and the hotel.
